How to get to Trat
1. By Private Car (Self Drive)
There’s more than one route to get to Trat. The most common route, a
total distance of 315 kilometres, passes through Bangna, Chonburi,
Ban Bung, Klaeng, Chantaburi and then Trat. First take Highway
Number 3 (Bangna-Trat Road) until you reach the Chonburi bypass
where you can either take the normal road or the elevated Bangkok-Chonburi
tollway. Exit from the main road and follow the Chonburi bypass that
says Pattaya-Rayong. Follow the Rayong route until you reach the Ban
Bung-Klaeng-Chantaburi and the Bang Saen-Pattaya signboards. After
that, take the Ban Bung-Klaeng-Chantaburi route, then take the right
route at Ban Bung-Klaeng junction and head for Klaeng until you
reach the Chantaburi-Rayong junction. Turn left to Chantaburi and
keep on going until you reach the Sa Kaew-Trat junction. Finally,
take the right turn to the town of Trat.
If you want to go directly to the piers without having to pass
through Trat, just look for the Laem Ngob signboard at the Laem
Ngob-Trat junction. There is a prominent PTT petrol station on your
left just after a police checkpoint. Turn right to Laem Ngob, which
is Highway Number 3156 (Laem Ngob-Sahn Tung Road). You will then
reach Ao Thammachat, the Centre Point and Kromluang Chumphon Piers
respectively.
Another alternative is to start from Rama IX Road or Srinakarin
Road, then exit after paying the second toll that leads to Ban Bung,
Klaeng, Chantaburi and finally Trat.
2. By Air-Conditioned and Ordinary Buses (Public Transfer Services)
There are 3 bus stations at Bangkok, Suvarnabhumi
Airport, Ekamai Bus Station and Northern Bus Terminal ("New Morchid"
or "Mor Chit 2"), near Jatuchak Market (JJ Market).
Ekamai Bus Station is the main bus station for travelling to eastern
provinces of Thailand (Chonburi, Pattaya, Rayong, Chantaburi, Trat,
Koh Chang), located opposite to Sukhumvit 63 (Ekamai) which is
easily accessible by the BTS Skytrain. There are air-conditioned and
ordinary buses which depart almost every hour. The trip is about 5
hours.
3. By Van (Public Transfer Services)
There are many vans plying between Bangkok and Laem Ngam,
Ao Thammachat, and Centre Point. They are operated on Khao San Road
near the Vieng Tai Hotel, departing daily at 8:00 am and leaving
Laem Ngob at 11:00 am. The one way fare is about Baht 500 per person
depending on the season. This public van transfer service is good if
you stay at hotels around Khao San Road.
4. By Air (Bangkok Airways)
Bangkok Airways (Telephone for Reservation Center: 1771) flies
triple daily to Trat. The flight time is 50 minutes. Airport
transfer service to hotels and resorts on Koh chang is about Baht
280 - 350 per trip depending on the hotel where you stay. The ferry
piers for Koh Chang is 20 km from Trat Airport and transfer service
can be arranged inside Trat Airport.
